Amy Foundation Netherlands established

We are going for maximum support of the Amy Foundation South Africa!

Eindhoven, February 19, 2025

On Wednesday, February 19, the deed of establishment of the Amy Foundation Netherlands was passed by notary Mr. Segers of the Schäfer office in Eindhoven. An important moment for the present board of the Foundation.

The establishment of the Amy Foundation Netherlands is a fact. How a first contact during a study trip can lead to close cooperation. In 2015, the chairman of the Foundation (Alger Vissers) followed a Master’s degree. During a study trip to Cape Town (South Africa), he came into contact with Kevin Chaplin, former bank director and now passionate director of the ‘Amy Foundation’ (formerly Amy Biehl Foundation). This Foundation is named after the American student Amy Biehl, a gifted young woman who was committed to making a difference in South Africa. For this, she worked together with members of the African National Congress (ANC) at the University of the Western Cape’s Community Law Centre on, among other things, the new Constitution and women’s rights and helped with the first free elections in 1994. On August 25, 1993, she was killed during political gang violence in the Gugulethu township of Cape Town. Four young men were convicted of Amy’s murder. After 5 years of imprisonment, they – partly at the instigation of Amy’s parents – were granted amnesty. To keep Amy’s love for South Africa alive, her parents founded the ‘Amy Biehl Foundation’.

The Amy Foundation Netherlands was established to raise funds to support various projects in South Africa (see also: amyfoundation.co.za). For example, a ‘charity dinner’ will be organized in Eindhoven on May 8, 2025. It is expected that 200 people will participate in a dinner with good food, drinks, entertainment and an auction. The director of Amy South Africa will come to the Netherlands especially for the occasion.
