The Performing Arts programme offers the learners that attend our after schools an opportunity to acquire skills life long skills within the arts. We offer Drama, Marimba, Brass, Choir, and Traditional Dance. These programmes are spread across all five centres. Each of these classes serves between 25 and 40 learners from Monday to Thursday each week in the afternoons.
The classes are facilitated by our group of very well skilled facilitators who are performing artists themselves. We also have partnerships that assist us with outreach programmes. They do workshops and masterclasses for our learners and facilitators. The UCT School of Dance lecturer Maxwell Rani offers African Contemporary Dance lessons to 30 of our learners every Saturday as an outreach programme.
Jazzart Dance Studios also offer us masterclasses as well as performance opportunities for our learners in their shows. The Cape Town Opera also provides our learners an opportunity to go and watch the final dress rehearsals of their Opera productions as well as UCT College of Music.
We also have a partnership with the South African Schools Shakespeare Festival that gives our learners an opportunity to experience Shakespeare by performing a play in the festival each year and also run workshops for our drama facilitators. We also have a great relationship with Aviva Pelham who assists our music classes especially the choir and also Zola Shuman who is a music composer and singer and works with our choir.
We also give them an opportunity to perform at different events and venues to showcase what they have learned. Zama Dance also is our partner that provides Ballet Lessons to our learners three days each week as an outreach.
All of these exciting opportunities are provided to our learners free of charge.
