“I come from Johannesburg. When I came to Cape Town in June 2019, the Amy Foundation took me in and set me on a good path.

They taught me so many important things that have stuck with me ever since. They showed me that discipline is key if you ever want to achieve something. Unless you’re ready to give it your all, you won’t make things happen for you. You also always need to be on time. You need to be a reliable person, someone who your boss/employer can count on to be there when expected. Also, whatever you do, everyone around you will always notice. The teachers at Amy were very educational, always making sure I paid attention and pointing out when I wasn’t.

Since I did so well at Amy, I was given an internship at the 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa. I started in housekeeping. It was a tough job, we had to clean up to 70 rooms a day. Although it was tough, the foundation had given me so much motivation, making me believe I can push through anything. As you can see, I am still working there to this day. This is thanks to everything the foundation taught me. Now I might get the chance to go overseas. My life has changed completely.

I always say we need to help each other. I have a big family, we didn’t have much. We always helped each other and lent everyone our individual strength to push through turbulent times. Don’t turn to drugs even when things get difficult, because it always gets better. If I could leave you with any wisdom, I would say that success will never come to you. You must earn it.”
